of my life

the story

It's about the love that led you to this day. The love that surrounds you now. And the love that will see you through.

BECAUSE IN THAT MOMENT, I REALIZED THAT A WEDDING IS ABOUT SO MUCH MORE THAN A PARTY.

...

Only our core group of friends remained. And my husband Adam and I, holding one another tightly, were in tears. We were completely overwhelmed by the love that had been poured on us.

It was our wedding day. We were in France. And 50 of our nearest and dearest had traveled overseas to surround us in love, support, and joy. It was a moment I'll never forget. And a moment that motivates me to this day.

it was late in the evening.

Instead, I have a classic style that will look as good to you in 50 years as it does today.

I REFUSE TO GO WITH THE TRENDS.

Shortly after college, I met Adam. We had both been gifted cameras and decided to enroll in a film photography class. Instantly, I became addicted. Right away, I knew photography was for me.

I fell in love with the timeless quality of film. Whether photographing something in black and white or color, the essence of it was (and is!) so romantic.  And though I've now transitioned to digital, film truly shaped my style.

It's why, 20 years later,

that led me here

AND WE MADE THE DECISION TO PLAN OUR OWN DESTINATION WEDDING THERE THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

...

Adam and I were asked to photograph our first wedding together. It was perfect! We got to work together, meet incredible people, photograph an incredible day, and create a timeless piece of family history to look back on.

It was everything that I love most. And I knew, at that point, that wedding photography would become my career.

Shortly after, Adam and I received an invitation from a family friend to become caretakers of an 11th-century chateau in France. (I know, rough life.) While it wasn’t as picture-perfect as it may sound, our time there truly solidified our love for the country.

life-changing.

We loved the idea of not just photographing someone's wedding but photographing their life. Because yes, the wedding day is important. But, by far, there will be bigger and better days. And we’d love to capture them all!

The business quickly grew, and for over 20 years we've had the privilege of capturing incredible weddings and milestone events all across the States and abroad.

Upon returning to Seattle from our time abroad, we opened La Vie Photography - choosing the name, because it meant "life" in French.

And the skills that it forced me to master.

As the Art Director, I was in charge of sifting through and selecting the final images for the site. From that experience, I quickly learned that the best photographers were good at it all: fashion, details, architecture, light, landscapes, technical elements, kids, and pets.

So, I began pushing myself to become better at the art of photography. And I challenged myself each year to tackle and master one new aspect of the art form.

Though we sold Junebug Weddings in 2014, I continue to be super proud of the work we did. The legacy we created. The friendships we made.

I joined forces with two other photographers and started one of the first internationally-recognized wedding blogs, Junebug Weddings

-an award-winning Seattle-based contemporary dance company. For 10 years, we challenged our artistic eye and gave back to the community. We also further developed our ability to capture movement, work in tough lighting conditions, and not take center stage while doing so.

To this day, I use that experience - whether I’m capturing the beauty of this island, the energy of a dance floor, or the unique lighting that only Mother Nature provides.

When you arrive,
I hope you also feel surrounded by love.

In 2018, Adam and I decided to return back to my hometown of Friday Harbor, WA. We wanted a slower-pace of life for our daughter, Mirabelle and our soon-to-be son, Elon. One where we would all be surrounded by beauty, inspired by nature, and fully present for life.

Now, Adam spends his days helping care for our kids and running our commercial photography company. But, when I need a second photographer, he's still my go to guy. He's a true pro with a unique and artistic eye. And he knows what I want without me even having to ask.

I'm so grateful to be surrounded by so much love: Adam, our beautiful children, our wonderful family, and friends... And this beautiful island.

Regardless of your family of origin, the color of your skin, what you believe, or who you love, I believe your life should be celebrated. And I look forward to joyfully capturing it all.

In a world that seems so upside down, I hold fast to the idea that love is universal. And it conquers all.
